The Pursuit of Happyness
It wouldn’t make sense if we wrote a list of emotional movies and didn’t start off with one of Will Smith’s best movies ever; The Pursuit of Happyness. The movie is about the struggles of a young man called Chris Gardner who tries his best to make ends meet. He lives with his wife and toddler son (played by Will’s actual son, Jaden Smith). However, when things get rough, his wife leaves him alone with his son, and thus begins Chris’ journey to give a beautiful life to his son.
You can watch the movie on Netflix but you need to make sure that you have an internet connection fast and sturdy enough to stream the movie as flawlessly as possible. S. I Love You
This movie is sad enough to get those tears flowing. The movie stars Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler and the two of them have a brilliant on-screen chemistry. Holly (Hilary Swank) is a teenager who has gone to Europe so that she could study and there she meets an appealing Irish man called Gerry Kennedy (Gerard Butler).
Eventually, the two of them get married and have a wonderful married life, but everything changes when Gerry dies young. Life turns upside down for Holly as she has to learn how to live on her own but it turns out that Gerry left a few heartfelt letters for her before he died, making sure everything made sense to Holly. This is the kind of movie that you just cannot miss, so make sure you add this to your watch list.
The Truman Show
While this movie dropped back in 1998, 26 years later we are still amazed by how this movie was way ahead of its time. The movie stars Jim Carrey and this was a serious movie for a change, something like The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but with a different kind of story.
The Truman Show is about a man called Truman who is part of a reality TV show based on his life but he is unaware of it. From his birth to youth, he spends his life on the set of a show and it is until people start protesting that he escapes to the real world. The movie is beautiful in the sense that it is wonderful to watch Truman transition into the real world after spending his whole life based on a script.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This movie definitely had to make the list. The movie was released back in 2012 and is still loved by people all over the world. The movie is about a 15-year-old boy called Charlie (played by Logan Lerman) who is kind but an introvert who struggles to deal with his first love, the loss of his best friend, and coping with his own mental health.
He befriends two seniors Sam (played by Emma Watson) and Patrick (Ezra Miller) as they teach him how to deal with life outside school. While all three of them are outcasts, they always make sure to look out for each other. To keep it real, they do have a few blunders in life but they sort it out together. This is the kind of coming-of-age movie that you just cannot miss!
Coco
While this movie is created by Pixar/Disney and is intended for children, it is the kind that will have you ugly-crying even as an adult. The movie’s theme is death and the Hispanic culture where they celebrate the day of the dead. In order to have your passed family member cross over to the world of the dead, they need to be alive in your memories through photos and mementos kept in the house.
The story is about Miguel, a young boy who loves music with a passion but he comes from a house where music is banned due to specific reasons. Miguel sets out to find his great-grandfather and the twists and turns in the movie will have you crying about how important family is, even the ones who have passed and must be kept alive in your memories!
